Objective: The kids will know the proper form and technique that makes a forward roll successful, including all cues and spotting regiments.
Learning Cues: Arms down, head tucked, push with legs , reach out and up for the ceiling
Set Induction: Today we will be learning how to properly perform a forward roll while also learning important spotting techniques that help make a forward roll successful and also safe. The most important thing to remember is to always keep your head tucked as to if you were trying to touch your chin to your chest. This is important because of safety reasons involving the neck. Keeping our heads tucked and legs together are the two most important primary goals.
Organizational Formats: Teachers back is to the wall, kids either in groups and always facing teacher with their backs toward any type of distractions.
Content Development:
I - (informative)- the kids will learn the basics of the forward roll, practicing hands down and head tucked
E - (extension)- As the kids progress with the forward roll, I might change it up, like only using one hand while rolling to eventually using no hands at all to roll, ( using spots)
R - (refinement)- I will let the kids know what they might be doing wrong like not keeping head tucked and always keep legs together through entire skill, while also encouraging the kids along the way that their doing great.
A - (application/assessment)- the kids should know by watching someone else perform the skill exactly what they may be doing wrong and what their doing right. Ask them questions like did they keep their head tucked and where their legs straight. Let them assess the skill for themselves.
Culminating Activity: kids will attempt to pick up a stuffed animal while performing a forward roll. The kids will be paired up with a partner. I will set out three or four animals in a row. You and your partner are going to race to see who gets the most animals and finishes first. While one person does the skill the other will be their to spot and then they will switch up. “Animal forward roll race”
Closure: What’s the most important thing you must do while performing a roll (head tucked always), how could you injure yourself ( not keeping head tucked),What do you always keep together ( legs), where do you want to end up at the end of the skill ( standing on feet and facing forward out of roll.)
