• Anemia: lack of erythropoietin production

• Bone marrow suppression:

  • uremic poisons: leukocyte suppression - infection
  • bone marrow fibrosis: elevated PTH an aluminum toxicity from dialysis

• Increased bruising, blood loss (surgery) and hemorrhage

• Lab Abnormalities: Prolonged bleeding time, abnormal platelet aggregation
