Dr. Elvan Ceyhan

Dr. Elvan Ceyhan is the Marguerite Scharnagle Endowed Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University, where he has been a faculty member since 2019. He earned his BS in Mathematics from Koc University, Istanbul, followed by an MS in Statistics from Oklahoma State University in 2000. He received both his PhD in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and an MSE from Johns Hopkins University (JHU), and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at JHU's Center for Imaging Science.

Dr. Ceyhan served on the faculty at Koc University from 2005 to 2016, advancing from assistant to associate professor. In 2016, he was a visiting associate professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Pittsburgh. From 2017 to 2019, he was the Deputy Director of the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) and a research associate professor at North Carolina State University.

A prolific researcher in statistical machine learning, random geometric graphs, and network optimization, Dr. Ceyhan has authored over 58 peer-reviewed journal articles and contributed to the development of several R packages, including 'nnspat', 'pcds', and 'pcds.ugraph'. His research has applications in spatial analysis, medical imaging, ecological modeling, and graph-based learning.

Dr. Ceyhan has delivered over 90 invited talks and conference presentations worldwide and served as a mentor and principal investigator on projects funded by NSF, ONR, the Simons Foundation, and the European Union Marie Curie Fellowship. He is also an advocate for inclusive teaching and AI-enhanced education, recognized with the Marie Kraska Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award in 2024.

He currently serves as the President of the ASA Alabama-Mississippi Chapter and Co-Director of Auburn's Center for Data Science Innovation. Dr. Ceyhan is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, served on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Statistical Computing, and was named a TWAS Young Affiliate Fellow. He is also a former member of the Global Young Academy.

Dr. Ceyhan actively contributes to academic publishing, having served as an associate editor for journals such as Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, Journal of Probability and Statistical Sciences, and on editorial boards including Measurement: Interdisciplinary Research and Perspectives and Model Assisted Statistics and Applications.
