A cumulative GPA of 2.00 or above, at the time you submit your application, is required for a student to qualify for an internship. You may not enroll in the internship class if your GPA is below 2.5 at that time.
It is left to the company to decide if they will pay the intern. A number of internships are not paid. Therefore, you should assume that your internship will not be paid.
The most desirable time to participate in the internship program is during one of your final three semesters before graduation.
In order to be considered for an internship placement, you must complete the application form and turn it in to me four weeks prior to the beginning of the semester in which you will accomplish the internship work.
If you apply for the internship program, it is expected that you will not change your mind and drop the course. It hurts the credibility of the program if an internship placement is made, but the student then decides to drop the internship course.
It is not possible to find an internship position for every student who applies for one. In fact, finding your own internship position is your best approach. Also, if you wish to guard against the possibility of being shut out of a course you would want to take in the event that an internship cannot be arranged, you can preregister for that course, and, assuming an internship is arranged, later drop that course and pick up ISMN 4920. There are always openings in ISMN 4920.
ISMN 4920 is graded on a S-U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) basis. Three hours of academic credit is given for the course.
Please come by to see me during the final exam period (or the following semester) if you would like some feedback as to how your supervisor evaluated your performance. I would encourage you to do this, since this feedback may be useful to you in your future business career.
