ZSS DBD Training/Overview

The DBD process is used to create files which contain the structure and translation values of master files within ZSS systems. Each ZSS system has its own database definition files. In addition, all share a common data translation file.

When a system is first initiated in the online environment, ZSS checks to see if the data translation table from the system being accessed is loaded. If not, the table is loaded into memory for quick access. This in-memory table can sometimes play havoc with ZSS database definition updates. This will be covered later.

The DBD Process

The DBD process is invoked whenever a change is needed to either

  1. modify an existing data element
  2. add a new data element
  3. modify data translation values for an element

These changes are generally initiated by the user, but may also come from other sources, most notably from changes supplied by SCT. The basic process involves:

These will be covered in detail in a description of the DBD process.
