THE POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
by Chuck FerrellIn America, society has learned to blame all our social problems on someone else. As you know, parents blame teachers. One political party blames the other. The militia blame all political systems. But our problems continue to escalate. Everyone sets his own standard for right and wrong. We substitute words like "tolerance" for integrity.
Our problems are not our political systems, nor are they due to unqualified teachers. When our country was growing and prospering, and being blessed beyond any other country in history, we had a strong faith in God. Faith was once the number one character trait for someone to be elected to public off ice. As our faith in God decreased, our problems have increased.
After Moses delivered the great teaching on the Ten Commandments in Deuteronomy chapter 5, he want on to challenge the people. He said if we would love and honor God with our lives, God would give us land and homes, and he would fill our homes with good things, with food and clothing. Then Moses said we were to love God with all our hearts. We should tell our children and our children's children about God. We should talk about Him when we lie down and when we get up, and when we are walking down the road. And Moses said after God has done all these things for us 'be careful not to forget the Lord our God.' This is the root of our problems.
All our influence, no matter how well-intended it is, has no eternal value unless it is seasoned by our faith in God. On April 6, 1987, 1 accepted God's invitation, that if I would put my faith in the provision He made for me at the cross, He would give me the joy, peace, and hope in life that makes life worth living. As my faith, commitment and love for God increased, my love and commitment for my wife, children, grandchildren, friends, customers, employees and everyone in the community also increased. God is bigger than life. To know God is to know that life cannot be complete or manageable without Him. God has no motive except to love, encourage and guide us into the only true hope there is: "reconciliation to Himself." It is God who makes our motives unselfish and pure as are His. And it is God who completes us and gives us understanding of how precious and good life can be.
I have loved and worshipped God for over ten years now. And I have discovered He is the one who gives us the balance in life we all need. If you don't know Him you know there is something missing in your life. God created us that way.
I have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And the supply has no end. It is for everyone who seeks it. My constant prayer and challenge for you is if you want to make a difference in your family and your students--and I know you do--find a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching and Jesus-exalting church and start exercising your faith in God. And watch God restore our community.
If everyone would take my challenge, Auburn, Opelika and Lee Country would become the most desirable community in the world in which to live. I love this community and I will pray for her until this takes place.
May God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, bless you and help you.
II Corinthians 5:14,
In His love,
Chuck Ferrell
