Course Description:
Differentiation and integration of algebraic and transendental functions with applications.
Textbook:
Essenttial Calculus: Early Transcendentals, Second edition by J. Stewart.
Coverage: We will cover
- Chapter 10 -- Vectors and the geometry of space
- Chapter 11 -- Partial derivatives
- Chapter 12 -- Multiple integrals
- Chapter 13 -- Vector calculus
Prerequisite: Grade C or better in Precalculus (Math 127 or 128 at UNLV) or ACT score at least 28 or SAT score at least 630.
Learning Outcomes:
- Operation with vectors and their application in 3D Analytic Geometry of points, straight lines, and planes;
- Recognition and description of quadric surfaces; finding arc length, tangent, principal normal, bi-normal vectors and lines, osculating, normal, and rectifying planes, curvature and torsion for a given space line;
- Finding velocity, speed, acceleration, tangential and normal components of the acceleration for a given space point motion;
- Evaluation of double and triple integrals for simple and convenient domains in Cartesian/polar/spherical/cylindrical/generalized/arbitrary coordinates and theiraapplication for finding area, surface area, volume, mass, center of mass, centroid, moments of statics, moments of inertia, etc. for a solid, lamina, wire, shell, rod, etc.
- Being familiar with curl, potential, divergence, flux, Stokes´ theorem, divergence theorem, Green´s theorem.
Note: The syllabus was created in Sept. 2018, and it is subject to change during the semester.
Homework: Homework will be assigned after each class meeting and due every Friday before the discussion class. Only part of the problem set (randomly chosen) will be graded, however you will receive some credits for completing all homework problems.
Quiz: Quiz will be given at the beginning of the discussion class on each Friday.
Attendence: You are expected to attend class regularly. You are responsible for all the materials presented and all the announcements made, if any, at each lecture. Some bonus points will be given at the end of the semester based on your attendence.
Tutoring: There are two tutoring opportunities for you:
Tests and Final: There will be 2 tests and a cumulative final exam. Failure to take an exam during the scheduled class time will result in a score of zero for that exam. There will be no make-up exam except for well-documented reasons such as a medical emergency. Scientific (non-programmable and non-graphing) calculators are allowed during exams.

- Test 2: April 4, Thursday, in class.
- Final: May 16, Thursday, 10:10 am to 12:10 pm.
Student ID: Each student will be assigned an ID number for this class. Please use this ID for submitting homework, quizzes, tests, and final exam.

There will be Homework (15%), Quiz (15%), two tests (20%+20%), the final exam (30%), plus some bonus points (based on attendance).

ny student missing class quizzes, examinations, or any other class or lab work because of observance of religious holidays shall be given an opportunity during that semester to make up missed work. Incomplete Grades:
The grade of I -- Incomplete -- can be granted when a student has satisfactorily completed three-fourths of course work for that semester/session but for reason(s) beyond the student's control, and acceptable to the instructor, cannot complete the last part of the course, and the instructor believes that the student can finish the course without repeating it. The incomplete work must be made up before the end of the following regular semester for undergraduate courses. Graduate students receiving "I" grades in 500-, 600-, or 700-level courses have up to one calendar year to complete the work, at the discretion of the instructor. If course requirements are not completed within the time indicated, a grade of F will be recorded and the GPA will be adjusted accordingly. Students who are fulfilling an Incomplete do not register for the course but make individual arrangements with the instructor who assigned the I grade.
