Objectives: The course will provide a review of the investment
alternatives for the individual, followed by more in depth coverage of
a number of more advanced topics including duration, modern portfolio theory,
technical and fundemental analysis, and international investing.
We will stress familiarization with The Wall Street Journal and with other
investment sources, including sources on the Internet.
Text: Essentials of Investments By: Bodie, Kane and Marcus,
4th edition.
Additional Materials: Calculator: Please bring a basic
business calculator to class.
Exams, grades, etc.: Exams, grades, etc.: we will have a mid-term
and a final, each counting 33% of your grade. Exams will mostly consist
of solving problems and short to medium length essays. The remaining third
of your grade will be class-based and will include assignments and announced
quizes (15%) and the remaining 19% on a termpaper (12 to 14 pages double-spaced)
on the securities topic of your choice. Your sources may come from the
WSJ and other periodicals and from various web sites. You will need to
let me know your topic (write a brief summary of what you propose to write
about) shortly after the midterm.
