Course Policies:

            Class Attendance:

This is not a lecture course. It is a class based on preparation and participation by both instructor and students. Therefore, your presence and active participation are vital to the learning experience of this class. If you must miss class for a legitimate reason, such as illness, family emergency or university activity, request an excused absence and provide me with verification for the excuse. Verification means a written explanation of the absence legibly signed by the appropriate authority (physician, coach, advisor) and accompanied by a correct telephone number.

You are allowed three unexcused absences with no penalty. Upon the fourth unexcused absence, your course grade will be dropped a full letter grade. Upon the fifth unexcused absence, it will be dropped an additional letter grade. After the fifth unexcused absence, your grade becomes an FA (Failure due to Absences).

Note: Class attendance means (1) that a student is in class at the beginning of the hour and remains until class is dismissed; (2) that a student brings to class texts and other materials required for full participation in the day’s activities; and (3) that the student is present mentally as well as physically and engaged in discussion and/or writing activities.

Tardiness is rude and disruptive. Three unexcused tardies
                count as one unexcused absence.

            Assigned Work:

Students are expected to carry out all the assigned work in
                the course.

Make-up work for notebook assignments, conference drafts, and other daily work will be accepted only from students with verified excused absences. An unexcused absence means a zero on any work missed.

Regardless of the reason for your absence, you are responsible for material covered in class, for any changes in assignments, and for adequate preparation for the day you return.

Late final drafts are subject to a penalty of 10% per class day.
No late portfolios will be accepted.

All assignments should be filed in an expandable folder as they are returned to you. You must have these materials to complete your portfolio at the end of the semester.

Academic Integrity:

The Tiger Cub defines plagiarism as "[t]he submission of themes, essays, term papers, tests, design projects, similar requirements or parts thereof that are not the work of the student submitting them. . . . In starkest terms, plagiarism is stealing—using the words or ideas of another as if they were one’s own. If, for example, another person’s complete sentence, syntax, key words, or the specific or unique ideas and information are used, one must give that person credit through proper documentation or recognition, as through the use of footnotes." The consequences of intellectual dishonesty are severe. See Capter 1200 of the Student Government Association Constitution and Code of Laws for full details.

Accommodation for Students with Disabilities:

Students who need accommodations should make an appointment to meet with me as soon as possible. Bring a copy of your Accommodation Memo and an Instructor Verification Form to the meeting. If you do not have an Accommodation Memo and need accommodations, make an appointment with The Program for Students with Disabilities, 1244 Haley Center.
