Workshop 1

Drafting Exercise:

Go over your essay carefully.  Follow the advice Glaser gives you in chapter 3 of Understanding Style.

                    1.  Read with an eye for overwriting.  Bold all
                    deadwood.

                    2.  Read with an eye for underwriting.  Look for
sentences that are too simple or disjointed.  Try
combining sentences for clarity and grace.

                    3.  Save your changes under a new file name so
that you will have copies of both your original
draft and the new one.  I will expect to see a paper
copy of each in your portfolio.
