Course Description and Objectives:
As
the first course in Auburn University’s four-course English core sequence,
English Composition I begins instruction in the analytical and expository skills
critical to your academic success and to your success in the larger world beyond
your college experience. The course emphasizes the writing process, with a focus
on the writing of exposition.
A grade of C or better in ENGL 1100 is required in
order to advance to ENGL 1120. Students who meet this requirement will
demonstrate their competence in the following ways:

Write an effective expository essay of four to five pages.
·
Write according to the standards of edited American
English.
·
Write for the educated public.
·
Read and critically evaluate non-fiction written texts and
visual and verbal texts of American culture.
·
Think critically about their own ideas and the ideas of
others.
