Instructions:  Copy and paste the information above into your peer review. Read your peer’s essay carefully, and then use the comments feature in Word to answer the following questions.  Be sure to save your peer reviews to your disk because you will be required to turn in copies with your project folder. Also, keep in mind that you are addressing the writer of the essay in your comments. Speak to your audience.

 

All reviews must be received by the writer before her scheduled conference in order for the peer critic to receive credit.  This requirement means that peer reviewers must email reviews in a timely fashion, and it also means writers must check email shortly before the scheduled conference.

  • Do you have a sense of why you should be reading the essay? What is it? If not, let the writer know he is missing a “so what.”
  • Does the student writer use details and language to convey her observations in a compelling manner.  Where?
  • Where do you see the writer reflecting upon the meaning of his observations ?
  • Does the writer use information from the Gladwell essay effectively to help you see the significance of the observations?  Where especially?
  • Where would you like to see more of the writer’s thinking?
  • Do you have a sense of what all the pieces of the essay add up to? Where does the writer articulate this sense clearly?
  • Does the writer help you get from one paragraph to the next so that you have a sense of direction throughout the essay?  Identify any places where you get confused.
  • Does the essay fulfill the requirements of the assignment? If not, what would you suggest to bring it into line?
  • Tell the writer anything that you think would be helpful for proceeding with this work-in-progress.
