Kiesel Park – Is located off of Wire Road on Chadwick Lane. The park has a pond, a garden, a walking trail, and a pavilion. This park is the largest in Auburn. It is a great place to take the kids and the dog to be physically active. One lap around the walking trail equals two and one-fourth miles. Picture is accredited to Auburn Recreation.
Charlotte and Curtis Ward Bikeway- This bikeway was dedicated to Charlotte and Curtis Ward on September 15, 2001 because they showed how practical it is to use a bicycle as a means of transportation in Auburn. Riding bikes is a great way to get children and parents involved in physical activity. It starts at Wrights Mill Road and Shell Toomer Parkway. Picture is accredited to Auburn recreation.
Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum- The Coliseum is located on Auburn University at 651 Roosevelt Drive. It is used for Auburn University Athletics but it is also a great place to be physically active. The corridor of the coliseum is used by many people to run and walk when doing so is not permitted outside, you can also climb stairs inside the main arena. The only draw back is that the building closes at 4 pm on days when there are games scheduled.
Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art- The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts is located on 901 Smith College Street. The landscape around the museum has a three acre lake, walking paths and benches. It is a great place to walk or jog because of the scenery and if you get tired there are benches for you to rest on.
Chewacla State Park- Is located on 124 Shell Toomer Pkwy. Some of the facilities that the park offers are playgrounds, swimming areas, and hiking trails; along with places to camp. The only draw back about this park is that it is a state park therefore it does cost to enter the grounds. The entrance fee is $2.00 for adults on weekdays and $3.00 on weekends. Children six to 11 years of age and senior citizens age 62 and older enter for $1.00. There are seven different walking trails and they all vary in length. The shortest trail takes about 20 minutes to complete and the longest takes about an hour and 20 minutes to complete. For more information about the trails see: Alabama State Parks. James E. Martin Aquatics Center- This facility is open to staff and faculty of Auburn University. It is a great facility to be physically active to swim when the weather does not permit physical activity outside. This facility is also good because it offers a type of physical activity that is great for any age but especially older adults. Swimming is a wonderful way to be physically active when running and walking is not an option due to health or other reasons.
