Mallard Window

The next window that you will see is the window depicting your mallard account.  Remember that your P:\ drive sits in a server that the very creative folks in OIT have named "Mallard."

Notice that you have two main areas of the screen, your Local Server area (on the left) and the Remote Server area (on the right).

Local System Icons

The icons in the window under the Local server area are specific to YOUR computer at home or in the LRC.  Usually A is for the floppy, C the hard drive, and D, E, F, or G for zip or flash drives, CD-ROM drives, or other drives that may be installed on your computer.  Double-clicking on the green arrow above the drive icons will take you to the level above that that you see.  So, to enter the C:\ drive you'd double-click the C: icon.  But to get back to the starting point from the C: drive, you'd double-click the green arrow.

Remote System Icons

Notice under the Remote Server area, there should be a folder called “public_html.”  If this folder is NOT there, you have to get it set up through OIT.  Please see me for assistance with that task.  The "public_html" folder is the same thing as your P:\ drive.  This is the only place to store files that you want to be viewed from the Web, and where your  projects will go for this class.  This folder has a box around it in the image above.

Double-clicking on the "public_html" folder will allow you to transfer files into it.
To simulate the opening of this folder, click on the public_html folder in the image above to go to the next step, transferring files.
