History

I was born in Galion, Ohio on January 9th, 1944 . I lived in that small, Midwestern town until I graduated from high school in 1962. My advanced education was obtained at Ohio State University and Indiana University . In the middle of my graduate education, I spent almost three years in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam conflict as a Master's level psychologist. After receiving my PhD from IU, I was on the psychology faculty at Penn State for five years. In 1977, I moved to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida . My research there initially focused on cluster analysis and later switched to prototype studies of the personality disorders. Clinically, I functioned as a group/individual therapist on the adult inpatient unit for 10 years and then as psychotherapy supervisor in the outpatient clinic. In 1996, I moved to Auburn University where I have been the Director of Clinical Training. My teaching at Auburn has focused on research methods and statistics for undergraduates as well as therapy supervision for graduate students.

My wife, Linda, and I were married while we were undergraduates at Ohio State . We have three children and five grandchildren. Both of our fathers are still alive (one is 92, the other is 86). We each have one sister. Our family is scattered. Currently our first degree relatives live in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, Ohio, and Texas.
