The MPRL is committed to providing open access to our facilities to domestic (US) and international researchers. Since 2015, over a dozen external users have each spent between one and three weeks conducting a range of experiments on our facilities - from diagnostic testing to materials processing to dusty plasma studies.
We invite theory, computational, and experimental groups to submit proposals to use the MDPX device. Experiment types can range from performing studies using our plasma sources and diagnostics to bringing your own hardware to install within the high field magnet.
Our local team will work with you to define your research needs. We expect that when a user experiment is performed, that at least one representative from the proposing team will be present in the laboratory.
Location and accommodations:
Auburn University is in east central Alabama, approximately 100 miles (160 km) southwest of Atlanta, Georgia and 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Montgomery, Alabama. The most convenient way to get to Auburn is the fly to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). There is a regular shuttle service that runs between the Atlanta Airport and Auburn. There are numerous hotels in the Auburn area and limited on-campus housing may also be available.
Our laboratory has limited funding to support ground transport, lodging and housing expenses for graduate students and post-doctoral visitors (and possibly early career researchers) - with highest priority given to PhD students. Funding for airfare to/from ATL will only be considered in unusual cases.
